President's Corner

It seems to happen too often to me. I'm sick again. I spent much of the time this past President's day weekend with a bad cold cooped up inside instead of out running where I'd rather be.

But these things happen when I push the envelope and run too many miles trying to find my limits. So I did the next best thing. I read about running. I started reading Mike Connely's "26 Miles to Boston". The book chronicles Mike's journey in the 1996 100th running of the Boston marathon. The book is really not about running but about life. The marathon is just a vehicle for the story of how ordinary people try to live extraordinary lives. I also could not help but be inspired by a friend's email. My good friend Jim Flanagan who most of us know very well were exchanging emails about Ed Whitlock who at age 73 ran a 2:54:53 marathon. (Yes..you read that correctly). I had sent Jim a story about Ed in the New York Times. Jim replied to me on how he considers Ed in a different league but then had this to say. "It's the quest and pursuit of individual potential that makes running so much fun. If all of us applied running lessons to careers, family and education we may not end up as CEOs, Spouse of the Year or Jeopardy Champ but we would make a hell of a good living, would be loved more (warts and all) and.. be smart as hell!" What a great quote! It is so true that running is a metaphor for life in so many ways. I hope that you get through the winter "blahs" without getting sick or inured. I'll be out running soon.

And when I do...I'll see you on the roads.

Blogging
by Judy Rusk

Blog --------as defined at http://www.matisse.net/files/glossary.html

"A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web."

The activity of updating a blog is "blogging" and someone who keeps a blog is a "blogger." Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog. Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in chronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominently."

Web logging or blogging, is becomming popular among the running community. For example: http://completerunning.com/running-blogs/index.php

is a website that hosts almost 200 blogs, or online journals, of runners. Some chose to detail their marathon training, others simply write about the running life.

Some other running and nonrunning specific blog sites:
